Coldstream Council chambers were filled to capacity with unhappy taxpayers for the public hearing on the future of Kalavista boat launch.
The Chair of the Transportation Committee opened the meeting with the announcement that they would only entertain comments on the 8 proposals the Committee featured on a questionnaire provided to participants. These proposal were all aimed at reducing the traffic problems at the boat launch.
The participant immediately objected that these measures would only be "band aid" solution to a much bigger problem and insisted that the most obvious solutions, namely the closing of the boat launch or charging for parking, should also be investigated.
The common consensus gravitated to closing the boat launch to protect the north arm of Kalamalka Lake which serves as the domestic water source of much of Vernon and Coldstream.
The meeting carried on until past 10:00 PM.

I do not know what meeting the writer of this blog was at but certainly not the one I attended and spoke at. Out of a capacity crowd of local residents only one even suggested the closure of the Kalavista boat launch. What was repeatedly stated was that access to this particular boat launch must be restricted given that neither the launch or the local road infrastructure can handle existing peak period traffic loads never mind ever increasing demands for it's utilization by boating enthusiasts.
