Coldstream is very fortunate that Jim Garlick has decided to become a candidate for mayor. His decision shows a great deal of dedication and commitment to the management of our community in view of his already considerable personal and work related responsibilities. We owe him a debt of gratitude for offering to serve our community at this perhaps critical juncture in the future development of Coldstream. I sense that his vision for Coldstream should appeal to the majority of the electorate.
I am also gratified to see a good number of new candidates come forward and offer their services as municipal councilors. It seems that the efforts of the Coldstream Ratepayers Association and the 'Coldstreamernews Blog' may have had an influence on the decision of some incumbents to not seek reelection, at least that is my hope. Perhaps it's time for Coldstream to pause and take stock of itself after the hectic pace of growth and development under the management of the past two councils.
I have a feeling that Coldstream is in for a big change from what we have grown accustomed to over the past six years. I think we are going to witness a backlash which, in my opinion, is long overdue and I am looking forward to some form of retrenchment or stabilization from our new council. We shall see.
