New fire halls focus of events -- By Jennifer Smith

Coldstream residents are invited to see just what their tax dollars have amounted to for local firefighters.

Since construction of two new fire halls in Coldstream has completed, residents are invited to check them out today and Thursday.

The Lavington hall, at 9739 School Rd., is open today from 4 to 7 p.m. The Coldstream hall, at 8008 Aberdeen Rd., is open for the public Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.

“The public is paying for them so they should certainly see what they’re paying for and how beautiful they are,” said Mayor Gary Corner.

The two fire halls just barely squeezed in under the $4 million budget. Residents agreed to borrowing the funds, over a 25-year-term, during the 2006 referendum. The cost will be approximately $63 for the average homeowner on their annual tax bill.

Corner encourages everyone to come check out the new halls, which he says are great buildings that will serve the needs of the firefighters for many years.

Firefighters will be on hand to give tours of the new buildings and refreshments will be served.

About Me

My photo
I have been a resident of Coldstream since 1976. I have had 15 years of experience on Council, 3 years as Mayor. As a current Councillor I am working to achieve fair water and sewer rates and to ensure that taxpayers get fair treatment. The current direction regarding water supply is unsustainable and I am doing all I can to get the most cost effective water supply possible.
