Washington Celebrates Solving Totally Unnecessary Crisis They Created

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Official Washington was in celebration mode on New Year’s Day after kind of averting a completely unnecessary crisis that was entirely of its own creation.

“This deal proves that if we all procrastinate long and hard enough, we can semi-solve any self-inflicted problem at the very last minute in a way that satisfies no one,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky).

But even as Sen. McConnell basked in self-congratulation, he warned Congress against the complacency that could come with having sort of fixed its own completely avoidable mess.

“This is a new year, and much work remains to be done,” he said. “It’s up to us to concoct entirely new optional disasters that we will have to undo at some later date in a more or less half-assed way.”

In a related story, an arsonist received an award for putting out his own fire.

Former mayor not behind civil claim against Wal-Mart.

Julia Wong, CHBC News : Saturday, December 29, 2012 2:35 PM

A former Okanagan mayor wants you to know that he is not behind a claim against retail giant Wal-Mart.
On Friday, a Canadian Press story said Gyula Kiss was launching a lawsuit against Wal-Mart for selling him a heater that he supposedly claimed had sparked a fire that burned down his house.

But on Saturday, Kiss tells CHBC News that is far from the real story.

Some of my readers wonder why I was so concerned about having my name used as the principal in a legal action against Wal-Mart. It's quite simple: it made me look greedy. My insurance company compensated me for my loss adequately and my suggested action against Wal-Mart would have appeared as seeking additional financial gain from my unfortunate accident. This is not the case and that is why I went out of my way to set the record strait. Julia Wong of CHBC News did a terrific job in righting the story. Thank you Julia and CHBC News.

Former Okanagan mayor sues Wal-Mart - Clarification.

CHBC News, Kelowna : Friday, December 28, 2012 7:50 PM

Wal-Mart is being used (sic) by a former Coldstream mayor, who claims a heater that he bought at the store sparked a fire that burned his house down.

Gyula Kiss is suing for costs to replace his home and personal effects that were destroyed in the fire in Coldstream on January 4.

His suit claims the heater, which was made by Fusion Canada, was not appropriate for home use and not durable for the length of time it would be used.

Kiss says that Wal-Mart and Fusion Canada had a duty to warn of any defects and to ensure the heater was reasonably inspected before it was offered for sale.

The above report appeared on CHBC's 5 PM News and it needs to be clarified.

This was as much news to me as was to everyone else. I was not aware I was suing Walmart. i was not aware that this news was coming as the media have not interviewed me as to the accuracy of the report. It may be that the insurance company is filing a suit against Walmart but they have not informed me personally.

I don't think I have the resources to sue Walmart! That job is better left up to DON QUIXOTE!

About Me

My photo
I have been a resident of Coldstream since 1976. I have had 15 years of experience on Council, 3 years as Mayor. As a current Councillor I am working to achieve fair water and sewer rates and to ensure that taxpayers get fair treatment. The current direction regarding water supply is unsustainable and I am doing all I can to get the most cost effective water supply possible.
