Today I read with some concern that a veteran Vernon councilor wants to change his political venue for “personal” reasons. It seems he would prefer to work 'nights' in Coldstream in addition to his day job in Vernon, running his locksmith business.
Well my first question is why has it taken you four terms in office in Vernon to figure out it's not really convenient for you to have two day jobs?
Also, why have you taken so long to decide your real political interests lay in Coldstream and not Vernon?
Are you perhaps also a little worried you might not get reelected in Vernon?
Perhaps your performance in Vernon is not as great as you would have hoped for and perhaps you think Coldstreamers might look more favorably on your track record.
Why would you think that Coldstreamers, who have always had strong wishes to keep their own identity and maintain an arms length relationship with Vernon, would not view you with great suspicion?
I certainly would! How can we be sure you are not a political transplant from Vernon with a hidden agenda to prepare the ground for the future annexation of Coldstream into Vernon?
Perhaps you are satisfied to run for council this term and aspire to the mayorship next term?
What do you stand for and what can you offer to Coldstream that we can't get from our own home grown candidates who don't have previous ties to Vernon politics or Vernon politicians?
I see you as a typical run of the mill politician in the old mode and we have had our fill of those already. We want fresh blood with new ideas and a different way of running our municipal affairs and we wish to avoid the hopeless political morass you have been part in Vernon.
We are in the process of putting our own house in order next election; I doubt that your services will be required, thank you.
Run if you wish Mr Cochrane but don't think you are going to be welcomed with open arms in Coldstream! Good Luck.
