Mr. Heeren:
Your email has been passed on for a response.
Due to the nature of your resolutions, Council may only have discussions or receive comments through an In-Camera Meeting. A legal opinion has been obtained with respect to this matter. This is not to protect Council, but to protect the person involved. Leo is protected through three different legislations: Local Government Act, Community Charter, and Protection of Privacy Act.
Council would welcome written comments from residents regarding this matter, but those comments will be dealt with at an In-Camera Meeting.

Subject: Re: Coldstream Ratepayers Association - Resolutions from meeting of August 21, 2008
Hello, Keri-Ann:
I was very disheartened by this denial of our request to appear before Council to present the recent resolutions of our Ratepayers Association. The citizens and taxpayers of Coldstream have the right to present to Council resolutions passed by over 150 taxpayers regarding the firing [sorry, "letting go"] of the Fire Chief. If we can't honour and abide by this fundamental aspect of democratic process, what direction are we heading?
I want to remind you that the taxpayers are the foundation of the District of Coldstream and, thus, its governance ultimately rests in our hands. Therefore this denial of our request, based on the decision of the Administrator, contradicts the notion of democracy.
Sincerely,
Steve Heeren, President
Coldstream Ratepayers Association

"Leo is protected through three different legislations: Local Government Act, Community Charter, and Protection of Privacy Act."I wonder how Leo is protected by any of those pieces of legislation.
He is fired (sorry, "let go") from his job and his name is tarnished by not disclosing the reasons for his dismissal. How is that supposed to protect him? Against what?
It seems to me more like protecting administration than protecting the chief.

Exactly! It is ironic that the very Council which gave Leo his marching orders now turns around and acts as if it is his protector. Has Leo asked for this protection?
What hypocrisy!
