Council is hoping that the new development will improve the look of the entrance to Coldstream. They might be right it is kind of an eyesore at present.
Council's endorsement of the petition is an excellent idea. Interestingly, Vernon Council also endorsed the Petition. Of course, we must keep in mind that this accelerated growth in the area will put even more pressure on resources, such as water air quality, garbage as well as on our health care resources.
We need more intensive planning.

The letter by the doctors signing the Letter to the Editor on the right also focuses on this issue. You are encouraged to take steps to inform your MLA and the Minister of health of your opinions on the subject. Write, email or phone the politicians.
This next article is also connected to planned growth. However, a study lasting five years is hardly the way to do it. By the time the study is done and published it could be too late and we might be past the point of no return as far as sustainability is concerned. Observe the potential growth here in Coldstream (all you have to do is look up on the hills like Middleton Mountain, Coldstream Valley Estates, etc.). Then look up on The Rise, Turtle Mountain, the recently announced Sparkling Hills, etc. and you realize that the study might be a dinosaur by the time it commences.
Read the reports relating to Vernon Council's news.
Obviously, Vernon's citizens might be dismayed by the amount of money spent by their Council with nothing to show for it.
Predictably, the ever optimist Mayor believes that the half million dollars of taxpayers' money was well spent. Coldstream residents should remember that some of the money came from their pocket as the Library Board contributed $110,000 to the project.
I am glad to see that some City politicians picked up on Coldstream's initiative with regards to the future of the infamous "carbon tax".
