Election 2014: Coldstream candidates gather

The Coldstream Ratepayers’ Association is giving residents an opportunity to get to know their candidates prior to the election.

There will be an informal gathering at the Women’s Institute Hall Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Candidates will each say a few words about themselves and their priorities for Coldstream in the upcoming term, followed by a limited question/answer period.

Afterwards, refreshments will be available and the audience will have a chance to mingle and meet the candidates.

There are seven candidates, each seeking one of the six seats on council.

The candidates are newcomer Shane Hillman, former councillor Glen Taylor and incumbents Pat Cochrane, Doug Dirk, Richard Enns, Gyula Kiss and Peter McClean.

Mayor Jim Garlick has been acclaimed.

This is the final forum for Coldstream candidates prior to the Nov. 15 election.

Meet the Candidates - Coldstream Ratepayers

Hello Coldstream Ratepayers!
It’s election time again, and as there are so few candidates running this year, and all but one of them have been on Council previously, the Coldstream Ratepayers Association has decided to hold only one, somewhat informal gathering at the Women’s Institute Hall, 9909 Kalamalka Rd. on Thur., Nov. 6th , 7-9 pm.
The candidates will introduce and say a few words about themselves and their priorities for Coldstream in the upcoming term, followed by a time limited question/answer period. Afterwards, refreshments will be available and audience members will have an opportunity to mingle and converse with the candidates.
Please note, prior to this gathering at the WI Hall, there will be a more structured Coldstream All Candidates’ Forum at 7 pm. on Thur. Oct. 30th, at the Performing Arts Centre in Vernon.

Thanks,
Louise

Coldstream Ratepayers Association Meeting - January 9, 2014

There was a good turn out for the Ratepayers Association Meeting in the Coldstream Women's Institute Hall tonight.

Several speakers opposed any move to join a study for possible amalgamation of Coldstream, Vernon and the Electoral Areas B and C. None of the speakers envisioned any savings from amalgamation. Several examples were produced showing the major pitfalls of amalgamation: loss of identity, loss of contact with elected representatives, higher taxes, potential poorer service levels, inheritance of Vernon's infrastructure deficit etc.

At the end of the meeting a show of hands encouraged Council not to participate in a Provincial Government funded study.

CRA PRESS RELEASE

The Coldstream Ratepayers Association wishes to announce its forthcoming All-Candidates Meetings in anticipation of the upcoming municipal election on November 19. These meetings will give the Coldstream public an opportunity to question all candidates for both Mayor and Council positions in Coldstream. The All-Candidates Meetings will be non-partisan and will be moderated to ensure all candidates have a chance to present their views to the public. Questions for the candidates will be encouraged but will be in a written form (on 3x5 cards) in order to prevent speech-making from the audience and give order to the proceedings.

The dates and times are as follows:

1) Thursday, October 27, from 7-9 PM at the Lavington Elementary School.
2) Tuesday, November 1, from 7-9 PM at the Coldstream Elementary School.
3) Monday, November 7, from 7-9:45 PM at the OK College Lecture Theatre (Room D310).

News from Steve Heeren-- So far so good!

Hi, everybody:

Sorry for the delay in letting you all know how I fared with my cardiac surgery. Obviously I survived but it took a lot out of my energy level -- I'm tired most of the time and was finally working up to writing you to spread the word that I made it (I guess!).

This whole experience has led me to wonder if at least some survivors of open-heart surgery don't wind up envying those who didn't survive. Ha ha!

The routine in hospital was the most debilitating for me but as each day has passed since then I am gaining energy (very slowly) and I am looking forward to being fully recovered.

Steve

Thank you from Leo!

Thanks so much to the Coldstream Ratepayers Association for the pot luck dinner, kind words and the plaque on my retirement from the Fire Department. It has truly been my pleasure and I would like to thank everyone in the Community for the incredible support shown to the fire department members over the years. Also, a very special thanks to Maria and Greg for having put together a wonderful video presentation on my behalf, (even though I was naked in one of the pics). That meant a great deal to my family and I.

Thanks again,

Leo Lecavalier

Hello ! Good to be back!

Hello everyone.

I was not totally successful in recovering all my email contacts and some contacs might be outdated. I you are on my list and wish to be removed please notify me. If you know of someone who wishes to receive information related to Coldstream, please have them send we an email.

As you may know we had a little misfortune with fire but we are starting to recover. I managed to get on the computer and soon even my scanner might start working. It does not work now. Sorry for the long delay in maintaining the blog but I had no access to my usual facilities. Time is still at a premium but I'll do my best.

Best to you all.

Gyula

About Me

My photo
I have been a resident of Coldstream since 1976. I have had 15 years of experience on Council, 3 years as Mayor. As a current Councillor I am working to achieve fair water and sewer rates and to ensure that taxpayers get fair treatment. The current direction regarding water supply is unsustainable and I am doing all I can to get the most cost effective water supply possible.
