Police were faced with an interesting case when an individual walked into the 39th Avenue 7-Eleven at 8:45 p.m. Saturday.
“The male said, ‘This is a robbery. Give me money or call the police,’ so the clerk called the police,” said Gord Molendyk, with the Vernon RCMP.
But while the clerk was online with 911 and providing basic information about the suspect, the suspect corrected the details.
“It got to the point where the clerk described him as 20 and the suspect said, ‘I’m 19,’” said Molendyk.
The suspect then remained at the scene until the police arrived.
“It was a very unusual situation,” said Molendyk.
A 19-year-old was expected to appear in court Monday on a charge of attempted robbery.
In a separate incident Saturday, a man walked into the Toro’s Pub liquor store on Kalamalka Lake Road at 8:15 p.m., produced a knife and demanded money from the clerk.
The suspect then left the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect is described as being between 40 and 45 years of age and five-foot-eight to five-foot-10 in height. He was wearing a green army-type jacket and a grey sweater that was pulled over his face.
Anyone with information on the robbery at Toro’s Pub is asked to call the Vernon RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
