Morning Star Newsclips - democracy!

Remember that large petition that supported the request to the ALC to allow the proposed "Spicer Block Sports Facility ". Some Councillors supported it, others felt that the feedback from the community was a resounding "no". The referendum was a deafening "no" in terms of both voter turnout and vote itself. We know the fate of those councillors who supported it.

This call is no different. If Mr. MacGregor is correct in his assessment, then these councillors and mayor may get punished at the polls for misjudging the depth of discontent. That , my friend, is democracy.

I'm glad to see the city is going to look into it. I find it quite arrogant that Coldstream and Area B/C representatives will not even look into the study. That arrogance that will surely be noticed and remembered at the next election

Ah, the numbers game...a fifth-
grader could provide reasons why someone could not attend a meeting.

Many of us are frustrated by
persistent attempts to deny us a choice about how we wish to live.

Perhaps we could have filled the
extra seats with our body doubles or triplicates as witnessed with signatures on the petition?

Recent history has demonstrated
that amalgamation has proved to be a costly experiment for many who thought good things come in big packages.

Democracy is better served when all sides of an issue are presented sans slick wrappings.

Low information prevents us from
making wise and prudent decisions
about the future of our Coldstream heritage.

Those who spend even a cursory amount of time reading scholarly articles, thesis papers etc re amalgamation, can, in very short order, see that it is a straw dog that serves its hungry masters well.

Run your amalgamation candidates at the next election, I for one will never vote to destroy my cherished way of life.

This is worth a read:

lol, of course, the "educated" such as yourself have all the answers, and us simple folk should just sit back and not ask questions.. Why is council so not even willing to LOOK at the study. Its provincially paid for, I am intelligent enough to realize that the money will still come out of our wallets, but it wouldn't come directly out of the Coldstream/NORD budgets. Why not even look at it and put it to rest if you are so sure that it will not benefit taxpayers?

@lol:

You donut have to be a jeanie us, I, as a simple, happy, Coldstream bumpkin, can easily grasp the fact that each Liberal MLA has to share finite/vanishing taxpayer dollars amongst their various ridings. Some, a little more than others perhaps.

Money for a study means less money for other more pressing issues. No thank ee, I prefer my tax dollars applied to healthcare, rather than to a eletist, aery-faery study.

What a joke. Wish 'those' people trying to push their own agenda on the rest of us would b-gger off.
Find another avenue to feathering your own pockets. Leave the rest of us alone.

We'll see in November who has the cojones to run on an "amalgamation" platform.

About Me

My photo
I have been a resident of Coldstream since 1976. I have had 15 years of experience on Council, 3 years as Mayor. As a current Councillor I am working to achieve fair water and sewer rates and to ensure that taxpayers get fair treatment. The current direction regarding water supply is unsustainable and I am doing all I can to get the most cost effective water supply possible.
