The November 6th Town Hall Meeting organized by the Coldstream Ratepayers Association was a success. An estimated 150-200 residents turned out for the meeting and showed their appreciation for the information presented by loud applause and a sizeable contribution towards the expenses of the meeting (such as the cost of printing and mailing the fliers, renting and setting up the gym and other sundry expenses).
Three Councillors were present. Conspicuous by his absence was Mayor Corner. He could have taken this opportunity to explain the reasons he supports this development but he does not seem to think that he owes an explanation to those residents who are passionately opposed to this proposal.
A number of designated and many spontaneous speakers presented their views. Perhaps the most significant conclusion of the speakers was the fact that if this proposal succeeds Coldstream and the Coldstream lifestyle, as we know it, will be gone for ever. Councillor Garlic expressed the sentiment best when he stated:
Others pointed out that this parcel of land is a single parcel best utilized for agriculture while scores of other parcels owned by Coldstream Ranch have already been subdivided under many individual titles and are much less suited for concentrated agriculture.
One speaker pointed out that information provided by Greater Vernon Parks did not even know how many playing fields they had as some properties in Lavington were not even listed on their information sheet. She also presented statistics indicating that there are more than adequate number of playing fields present in Coldstream.
It was pointed out that if we wish to defeat this proposal and instruct Council not to send the proposal to the Agricultural Land Commission we must mobilize like minded residents to show up at the referendum vote and vote NO.

“If this proposal succeeds I might as well give up as Councillor of this community because this community will be gone.”This is just a brief summary of the meeting and I may have some additional information presented later.
