Important Note: The RCMP will be on the lake so to avoid a big fine please wear a life jacket!

Dear Registrants, 

Splash Mob is this Sunday!

Thank you for registering. At this point, it looks like we'll have at least 100 boats in the water, and more are registering every day.

Here are several important details for everyone to know:

1) We'll be mustering at Kal Beach and launching @ 9:30. There is plenty of parking directly behind Kal Beach, along Kal Lake Road east of Alexander's Beach Pub,  and also parking along Westkal Road west of the beach.

2) Remember to WEAR YOUR PFD's. You are required by law to be wearing one if you're out on the lake. The RCMP boat will be on Kal Lake on Sunday. They are aware of our event and don't want to be bad guys, but let's not put them in the position where they have to be. If you're planning on bringing a floaty or air mattress and you don't own a PFD, you'll join the circle at the portion closest to the beach. The RCMP have told us that if you're close to the beach without a PFD, you won't be breaking the law.

3) Our circle flotilla will be formed by 10:00 a.m.. The centre of the circle will be a few hundred feet off of Kal Beach. In the centre will be a large floating sign that spells out the words "STOP INVASIVE MUSSELS."

4) Air mattresses and floaties will form the North side of the circle, closest to the beach. Kayaks, canoes, and SUP's will form the East and West sides of the circle. Boats with any kind of motor will form the South side of the circle, farthest from the beach.

5) We have a team of 3 professional cinematographers from Rubicon Cinema joining us. They will be filming the whole event with their big, badass drone.

6) We'll stay in the circle formation for about 20 minutes, long enough for our cinematographers to capture the event adequately.

7) I will be on a megaphone for the entire event, to make sure everything flows and comes together!

SPKL'ers Information

Hi SPKL'ers, 

Splash Mob is coming together fast and furious. My head is going in so many directions I'm almost exploding! But I'm super excited....

I also really need all your help.
 

Two days ago we launched a fundraiser. It's only $1,200 we're trying to raise, but we really need this money! Please help me by sending this to EVERYONE you know, and expressing the importance of it.  Click on the photo to see the video!

Now, a reminder that this Saturday we're having our first work party! I'll have a big stack of leaflets, and we'll head out door-to-door and chat to people

Also, a few thoughts on getting people to come to Splash Mob:

1) First off, I challenge each SPKL'er to personally bring FIVE PEOPLE to Splash Mob!

2) I have found that direct emails work much better than Facebook posts. Although it's best to do both
 

3) Talk to everyone you come across! If you're not able to attend for all of Saturday, perhaps you can swing by and grab some leaflets to hand out to people over the course of the week. 

More to come soon. Our poster will be ready by tomorrow, and next we're working on getting in all the newspapers and on the radio.

Greater Vernon Water Utility - North Kal Lake Assessment Open House

COLDSTREAM, BC – The Regional District of North Okanagan - Greater Vernon Water Utility (RDNO-GVWU) is accepting comments from the public on the Draft Source Assessment for the North Kalamalka Lake Intake. The Assessment is in compliance with the RDNO- GVW Permit to Operate issued by Interior Health Authority (IHA) under the Drinking Water Protection Act. The Assessment has involved extensive field work and a technical review from IHA, Ministry of Environment (MOE), the District of Coldstream, the City of Vernon and RDNO staff.

The Public Open House encourages the public to comment on the draft report. The recommendations to create a protection zone will be of interest to those in the District of Coldstream since the area is within its municipal boundaries. Just as important are comments from the City of Vernon residents and businesses plus Electoral Areas “B” and “C” as they may receive their drinking water from this source. Input received from the Public Open House will be reviewed by the consultant and included in the Final Report as long as it is consistent with existing science and drinking water protection objectives.

The Public Open House will be held February 24, 2011 at the Regional District Board Room, 9848 Aberdeen Road from 5:00pm – 8:00 pm with presentations at 5:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. For a link to the full report, please go to www.rdno.ca
