Local politicians will see if there's any flexibility from the province for what will be a costly water project.
Interior Health wants over 20 million dollars in filtration upgrades
added to the Duteau Creek treatment plant, but the Greater Vernon
Advisory Committee will see if that can be delayed.
Director Bob Spiers doesn't see that as a priority, saying our water already meets all the standards.
"And if it's so important to our water quality, why are we allowed to
defer it to 2022? I just can't get an answer on that," Spiers tells
Kiss FM.
And while there will be a peer review of the filtration, directors
rejected a request by Coldstream's Gyula Kiss for an independent review
of the overall master water plan.
Kiss says he will continue to point what he feels are flaws in the
180 million dollar plan, despite not getting much support from his
colleagues.
"Upset? Why would I be upset? I did my work and presented my findings
and it's up to the board to decide whether they want to rubber-stamp
this," says Kiss.
Kiss feels it would have been beneficial to get another opinion on
the plan, as the same consultants have worked on it since 2002.
"They have contradicted themselves for 13 years with various plans,
and I think the public deserves an option that will actually do what
they want it to, and that's a separate domestic and agricultural system,
then everyone knows who's paying what," adds Kiss.
Both Bob Fleming from Area B (BX Swan Lake), and Area C's Mike
Macnabb (BX Silver Star) spoke in favour of proceeding with the plan
without a peer review.
"I think there's been a thorough and thoughtful review, and it's the best option that's been presented," said Fleming.
"We have to move forward. We have chosen the most flexible option," stated Macnabb.

Disappointing.
Perhaps voters will have something to say next fall.
Can it be that the singular Dark Force of the little Colony that did, has found a way to make water quality, or perhaps a lack of it their dearest friend?
DF: you inflict a wound on the environment, and then pretend to heal it with an even bigger wound: paving and power through paradise (because it's not like you and your colony can't afford generators after the mega-greasy land windfall and all???).
The D.F., like all patient chess players, has been machinating for years, both as a solo act, and also with their former side-kick, now deposed and exiled, but apparently thriving as never before. Oh, it's great having reliable friends.
Interesting how the D.M. found convenient hard-copy paper-work in the archives at the museum, which enabled the bonanza at the expense of our treasured Cosens Bay valley.
Furthermore, it is also curious as to how and why their "discovery" at the museum was taken at face value to form the basis of their "road" to development, one stealthy step at a time. Be vigilant, the DF wants it all.
