Due to the lack of a regulation sized track, Greater Vernon can not host the BC Summer Games or BC Senior Games.
The proposed sports facility would enable the community to host these
events, as well as provide a facility that could enable the development
of elementary and high school track and field teams.
Greater Vernon residents will be going to referendum on April 6, 2013 to
vote on whether they support long-term borrowing (20 years) of up to

The objectives of the project are to:- address the lack of a regulation sized (synthetic) track and athletics facility in Greater Vernon;
- address the need for more sports fields and programming time;
- and support the Polson Park Redevelopment Plan
- “Upgrade or develop two to six additional fields in parks or at schools over the next ten years” (depending on artificial turf or not) (pg v.)
- “There are several important trends occurring in soccer. One is a move toward artificial turf, which can sustain much higher levels of play year-round and many BC communities now have or are developing such fields” (pg 27)

This looks pretty well thought out and the cost per Coldstream residence is much less than I thought it would be. However, bit unrealistic referring to it as useful for year-round play given our weather isn't it? What a pity we could not have a heated dome. Walking on it would be much easier on our joints than the cement at Wesbuild.
I will vote for it.
My concern with this plan is the exorbitant cost. The UBC artificial turf field with lighting ,300 seats, team and washrooms came in under 2 million in 2010.....where did the RDNO numbers come from? A typical field alone is under $1 million. The track would of course be more. There are far too many other priorities in this community to spend $8.5 million on this "nice to have" concept. I will not support this level of cost....time to sharpen the pencils!

This is very good project, it needs more attentions from authority... it's for the best interest of everyone who loves being into sports. Good luck!
