I noticed that agenda item 9.c. recommends that the "District of Coldstream Subdivision and Development Servicing Bylaw Amendment #2 be passed and finally adopted.

At the previous council meeting at least six taxpayers expressed their concerns obviously to deaf ears. There are some major concerns regarding this bylaw and council's response is to once again cram it through without proper public consultation and thought given to residents concerns.
One taxpayer quoted from the community charter "Every Council member has the following responsibilities: to consider the well being and interest of the municipality and its community"

One resident also quetioned Council's choice to use Kelowna'a bylaw as a model without including the exemption for single family homes found in Kelowna's model.

I guess we the taxpayer's opinion really doesn't count in this community run more like a Kingdom!

"run like a Kingdom!"

L.O.L!!!!!

Some have a short or convenient memory.

Present council and mayor was resoundingly voted in precisely because this land-rich valley WAS run like an Old Boys Kingdom.

Re:Servicing bylaw

Much ado about nothing....and a lot of fear-mongering and misinformation. This amended bylaw (in reaction to public input and concerns) is much less onerous than the original which had only been invoked on one occasion (to my knowledge) on Kalavista for a major development with a large property footprint. I don't think I have to fear my basic home reno will trigger a fee for a drainage upgrade, and most of Coldstream is unaffected by it anyway (roads specifically defined are in the bylaw).

Perhaps you are uninformed.Homeowners have already been affected by this bylaw. The list of roads currently defined may be expanded at anytime and "safety" has been adopted into the mix. You may face an upgrade of up tp $2500 but lets see where "safety" upgrades take this amount. Why if Coldstream followed Kelowna's plan did they not also exlude single family homes? You may have an extra $2500 to spare but many of us don't!

I am sure we would have elected a different Council if we wanted developers to manage Coldstream's affairs.

About Me

My photo
I have been a resident of Coldstream since 1976. I have had 15 years of experience on Council, 3 years as Mayor. As a current Councillor I am working to achieve fair water and sewer rates and to ensure that taxpayers get fair treatment. The current direction regarding water supply is unsustainable and I am doing all I can to get the most cost effective water supply possible.
