It is an interesting phenomenon: following a near-disaster everyone is trying to prevent it. In this case everyone wants to close the park just as the weather is turning cool and the weather report predicts rain.
Closing the park is not a simple matter. We have five major access gates:
1. Main gate (at the end of Kidston Road),
2. Red Gate,
3. Reservoir gate,
4. Hydro gate,
5. Cosens gate.
If the park is closed all these gates should be guarded to enforce the closure. Otherwise only law abiding citizens would be kept out who would be the least likely to cause a fire.
In addition, all traffic, including vehicular traffic to the cabins should be restricted. Those cabins are zoned for R6, Seasonal Residential, not for permanent residency, hence it would be reasonable to restrict access in case of park closure.
Access to boats to Cosens Bay should also be controlled. Some boaters have been observed to smoke and build small camp fires.
In addition, the potential fire caused by lightening would still be a threat even if the park was closed to the public.
This short note should convey the potential problems associated with the proposed park closure. Every coin has two sides and every action should be carefully debated before a "knee-jerk" reaction is contemplated.
I am not opposed to closure if the closure extends to all parties but I am opposed to a closure for "public appeasement".
For the record I also live on Kidston Road which would be in the area of evacuation if a major fire broke out in Kal Park.

I totally agree. In addition, the more eyes there are in the parks the better. Early reporting of fire in the starting phases along with quick action by crews is obviously far safer than a fire out of control.
