There is a need for some expenses if Council is to carry out its role as representatives of the community. If those expenses were legitimate and the community received some value from Council members' reports then money is well spent.
However, Council members must exercise some common sense when requesting attendance to conventions. Residents of Coldstream should not worry about unauthorized and excessive expense accounts, as was the case in another jurisdiction, because in Coldstream Council must authorize attendance to meetings in advance and daily spending limits are set by Council.
