Why would Coldstream contemplate amalgamation when the numbers speak for themselves?
This table might be informative to your readers of your blog along with Mr Shepherd's letter to the paper. It shows that our spending outpacing growth and inflation is not out of line with that of other community's. At number 138 it appears that only 15 communities out of 153 are doing better than us. From the Canadian Federation of Independent Business (CFIB) report titled BC Municipal Spending Watch 2013.

816 of your residents signed in favor of asking to receive grant monies to have a study done so that we have the facts to make an INFORMED decision. What is Council afraid of, we just want a study. I thought this was a democracy not a few people with a narrow vision assuming that they know what their residents want. 816 people... That is a lot more than you managed to solicit to attend your so called community meeting of the ratepayers. This group, so far as I can tell is not looking out for the best interests of all residents, just the views of a few. I feel that my interests are being ignored because a few think they gave final say on what us best for the residents. I have a vote and a voice and I want it heard, it is my democratic right and I will use both come election time. Let's see if this letter has any chance of being posted on your "open" and unbiased blog. A Coldstream resident.
"As a citizen of Greater Vernon, I support a review by local and provincial authorities, to develop a plan to combine our regional governments (City of Vernon, District of Coldstream, Electoral Area B, and Electoral Area C) into a single entity, for the purpose of more efficient use of our local tax dollars."
Note the wording: " develop a plan to combine our regional governments.... into a single entity...
