Rails to trails has great potential to encourage green tourism jobs and bike commuting.
It would also be a tremendous asset for the physically challenged to have access to a level route they can use wheel-chairs, and scooters on(perhaps golf-carts like Penticton?).
Horses and quick traffic are a bad mix, so I would love to see equestrians using the rails.
I can imagine such groups as the back country horsemen using it.
Such a trail system might encourage British style trail- side pub/vineyard bed-stays. (Horse friendly ones too?).
The trail along Kal Lk. will provide much needed lake access, the North Okanagan is in stark contrast to our waterfront rich neighbours to the south.
Perhaps fire protection to the area/residences south of the college might be granted some prov/fed financial support if the rails to trails project comes to fruition. It will be important to protect the grasslands in that area from firebugs and partiers.
The lakeshore along the track is quite lovely. Last fall we witnessed what must have been small kokanee spawning in the relatively deep water at the shoreline.
I am so excited about the prospect of a trail through this regional paradise.
