About Me
- Coldstreamer
- I have been a resident of Coldstream since 1976. I have had 15 years of experience on Council, 3 years as Mayor. As a current Councillor I am working to achieve fair water and sewer rates and to ensure that taxpayers get fair treatment. The current direction regarding water supply is unsustainable and I am doing all I can to get the most cost effective water supply possible.

A parking fee does not reflect actual USE of the LAUNCH.
A LAUNCHING fee would have been a far better solution for charging those persons, including businesses, who USE our public boat launches, not just our parking lots.
The boat rental companies don't use the parking lot, they use the boat launch to drop off boats and away they go.
A $5 parking fee does not go very far towards paying for the enforcement of parking fees, not to mention all those who will illegally park elsewhere to avoid paying $5.
Didn't we learn ANYTHING from Coldstream's commissionnaires last summer? $7K in parking revenue and a $20K bill for commissionaires?
This new initiative means that we are going backwards and will need to dedicate even more taxpayer dollars to supporting our launches, instead of instituting a proper PAY PER USE model that would actually reflect the impact on the use of our facilities.
Shame on any regional board director who supports such a poorly thought-out approach to reducing the pressures on our public boat launches!
Hope the Regional District is getting insurance on those parking meters ... its going to get expensive to replace them at $6,000 a pop.
It would be nice if everyone who uses the launch including residents who are close enough to park back at their houses pay the user fee. After all it was local Kalavista committee members who pushed for a fee in the first place. This will only delay launch times and add to the problem. Way to think things through!
I hope the last 'anonymous' writer realizes that the RCMP could always search out who made the last comment when /if said parking meters are damaged by immature vandals.
The comments published Nov. 4th at 9:52 pm were mysteriously changed by said author. Hopefully, he is bright enough to realize that the Coldstreamer could have and (likely did) forward the original post to the RCMP.
