As I read our MPs column in your paper I was disconcerted at it's content. Our elected MP gets the privilege of using your media without having to pay from his own pocket for the good reason that we need our representative to keep us informed of the issues he is working on on our behalf and of the progress he is making. As well, we need him to keep us informed regarding government policies and changes that may affect us.
Instead of doing this, Mr. Mayes is using our dollars and time to rant against other parties and to ridicule other politicians. We deserve better. We deserve to be told what our representative is doing to represent his constituents who believe something needs to be done to address the urgent threat of climate change. If Mr. Mayes is not doing anything, then we need to be told what will happen to us, how our forests, rivers and grasslands will fare in 10 years because of this inaction. We deserve to be told why the CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) is still in charge of promoting agri biz while being responsible for food safety, when the results of this conflict of interest is killing the family farm and forcing us to eat imported unsafe food. We need to know why the federal government is letting P3 (Private Public Partnership in building hospitals) happen throughout the country instead of making it mandatory for provinces to fully protect our national healthcare system. And we all need to know a lot more about what our representative has done to represent all the constituents who have written him to oppose Bill C-51 and 52.
Mr. Mayes needs to be told that his constituents are intelligent thinking people who expect their representative to inform them clearly and honestly about issues that affect us all.
