Landrieu's Keystone XL Hail Mary Falls Short

WASHINGTON – After six days of political wrangling and vote-whipping, the Senate failed to pass a bill on Tuesday forcing authorization of the Keystone XL pipeline, dashing hopes of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) to add the vote to her list of accomplishments heading into a tough runoff election.

Fifty-nine senators voted for the bill, one short of the 60 needed to clear a filibuster. Fourteen Democrats joined all the Senate Republicans in voting for the bill, which was cosponsored by Landrieu and John Hoeven (R-N.D.). The House passed companion legislation on Friday from Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Landrieu's opponent in the runoff election.

Landrieu said going into Tuesday's debate that it was "one of the first debates I've been in in eight years where the outcome is uncertain." She added, however, that she went into the debate "knowing in my heart we have 60 votes. I hope we've got the courage that supports that."(more)

Morning Star Newsclips - The Eagle's comments!

**************************************************************************

Thank You, Coldstream Electors!

Thank you for the trust you extended to me by allowing to serve you for another term! I will do my utmost to justify your trust but I will need your help. We'll have a lot of work to do to develop a Master Water Plan that will be a long term investment instead of a band aid short term solution.

Here is the preliminary  press release on the referendum results:

There’s one more chance to find out details for a multi-million-dollar water plan in Greater Vernon.

The Regional District of North Okanagan will hold a public session Thursday at 5-7 p.m. at the Schubert Centre.

“This will provide information on the borrowing referendum and the master water plan priority projects,” said Zee Marcolin, Greater Vernon Water manager.

The lead consultant of the master water plan and Greater Vernon Water staff will provide an information presentation starting at 5:30 p.m., followed by a question and answer session.

On Saturday, residents will be asked if they support borrowing up to $70 million for six projects outlined in the master water plan.

For more information, go to www.rdno.ca/water.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is the last opportunity for residents to listen to the sales pitch by the consultant, staff and Director Macnabb for the support of the $70 million MWP referendum.

Just for additional information: Director Macnabb is unbiased as he is not connected to the Greater Vernon Water utility so he is not subject to paying the costs. He is just asking the rest of us to pay!

About Me

My photo
I have been a resident of Coldstream since 1976. I have had 15 years of experience on Council, 3 years as Mayor. As a current Councillor I am working to achieve fair water and sewer rates and to ensure that taxpayers get fair treatment. The current direction regarding water supply is unsustainable and I am doing all I can to get the most cost effective water supply possible.
