My fear is that without the pellet plant , the planer mill and the revived railway are at risk. Without this industry, what becomes of the local economy and real estate? If a pellet plant is unsuitable then so is any development on the glass plant property. Ironically, this debate started about the air quality at the school; in a few years there may be no reason to operate a school here!

I can't believe the shameful behaviour of a few hysterical people slamming Council for trying to support some employment and its extended economic benefits with a pellet plant. Once constructed, If it can't meet air emission standards then upgrade it or close it down...the risk is Tolko's and Pinnacle's?? How quickly we forget that the previous Council was slammed for not developing opportunity for some industry to replace the closed glass plant! Does everyone want to commute to NE B.C., Alberta or Kelowna for work? What becomes of the diminished tax base for this area if Tolko were to pull up stakes, and the rail abandoned forever? Without desire for young families to relocate here for employment, there will be no need for a school....and so much for local real estate values.

About Me

My photo
I have been a resident of Coldstream since 1976. I have had 15 years of experience on Council, 3 years as Mayor. As a current Councillor I am working to achieve fair water and sewer rates and to ensure that taxpayers get fair treatment. The current direction regarding water supply is unsustainable and I am doing all I can to get the most cost effective water supply possible.
