Water and wastewater are intimately connected. Can you connect these dots?

Instead of disposing of 100% of our treated wastewater via the costly Spray Irrigation program, return it to the lake!

That will save us $1 to $2 million a year - enough to fund agricultural separation!

Believe it or not those dots were connected 30 years ago, hence the court decision setting out stringent requirements for lake discharge. We have progressed and now we recognize the value of the treated wastewater. No room to list all the values just consider this: Our limited water licences could be supplemented by using wastewater for irrigation and use the saved irrigation water for domestic purposes. Other Okanagan communities should be required to use similar methods and reduce the need for additional water licences which are in limited supply. In fact, it is my understanding that if all jurisdictions exercised their licences we would be using more than the annual inflow to the lakes, an intolarable situation.

About Me

My photo
I have been a resident of Coldstream since 1976. I have had 15 years of experience on Council, 3 years as Mayor. As a current Councillor I am working to achieve fair water and sewer rates and to ensure that taxpayers get fair treatment. The current direction regarding water supply is unsustainable and I am doing all I can to get the most cost effective water supply possible.
