I am very much opposed to this proposed development. The slope/soil is unsuitable, the grassland needs protecting [too much has been bulldozed over already], the traffic, logistics are huge, the noise pollution would be terrible. Even across the lake I hear Fantastic now. I resent my tax dollars being used for their feasibility studies, etc. I resent the College's Board of Governors lack of consideration for all that would be destroyed. I am told they are all Kelowna people, what is with that? Also apparently the majority of the ones who want this blight on the landscape are from Kelowna.
Council needs to stand up and be counted on this issue!

I’m against the amphitheatre plan.

It occurs to me when a university or government wants to use land to suit their idea, then all seems to be A-OK.

Yet residents are faced with all sorts of obstacles and rules and regulations when trying to develop their own land.

For instance, look at how the following Coldstream OCP “rules” COULD easily be applied to the sensitive, steep areas on which the amphitheatre is planned: Area 1, contains an extensive area of natural grassland, is habitat to several of the identified species and is primarily comprised of steep hillsides. Area 2, contains a minor riparian ecosystem and some areas of steep slopes. Area 3, part of a single title containing ALR and non-ALR lands. Some minor hazard issues related to erosion potential and steep slopes. Contains lands rated as high and very high conservation value. Area 4, a block of land on the eastern edge of Kalamalka Provincial Park. Contains lands rated as high and very high conservation value and has steep slope areas.

I say “could” be applied to the amphitheatre plan.

But will the same rules apply to the amphitheatre plan?

This makes as much sense to the environment, as the proposed Sports Complex did on the Spicer Block; and see where that went.

No, no, no, to urban sprawl and destruction of the pocket paradise below the college!

It's hard enough hearing bird song with existing noise pollution, I live near Coldstream Elementary and I already loud boats, sirens and traffic on 97...I hear loud motorcycles and monster trucks as they pass Kal Beach heading east...it's all crazy making.

I won't even get started on the traffic.

Someone suggested improving the bandshell in Polson Park, good idea. Could the shelter also be used for a farmer's market? I don't enjoy shopping in the ugly parking lot at the Westbuild Centre. Funds from the rental of space by farmers and crafter's would underwrite the cost of such a structure.

I have been a resident of Coldstream since 1976. I have had 15 years of experience on Council, 3 years as Mayor. As a current Councillor I am working to achieve fair water and sewer rates and to ensure that taxpayers get fair treatment. The current direction regarding water supply is unsustainable and I am doing all I can to get the most cost effective water supply possible.
