NORD Meeting -- May 5, 2010: Water restrictions.

NORD Board approved a two week relaxation of the stage 3 water restrictions. What this appears to mean that stage 3 restrictions are still in effect but they will only be enforced after the 2 weeks reprieve. Customers are asked to continue to use water wisely from both the Duteau and the Kalamalka Lake sources. The exact wording of the motions passed are posted below along with a request from Coldstream Council to treat all customers equally.

It doesnt make a whole lot of sense to have the Kal source on such strict restrictions if it does not need to be. Kal is in good shape, and still has a lot of snowpack to melt. I realize that some of the Duteau customers can be serviced on Kal, but not really enough to make a huge dent in the average use during the year. Would it be prudent to just have stage three restrictions all the time just in case we get hot weather" or is it time to raise up the levels of the dam on Aberdeen to store more water during good years so this doesnt happen again the next time we have a low snowpack year. I think its also time to revisit the application made to the MOE to raise up Kal slightly to store more there for future dry years also. THe Aberdeen dam project is "supposed" to be constructed 2012, and it sounds like the Kal project was given up on, but I believe that action needs to be taken on both. This is imposing a lot of hardship on businesses that rely of water for their survival. Any one interested in more info on these two projects email me at vernongrasshoppers@hotmail.com

I have been a resident of Coldstream since 1976. I have had 15 years of experience on Council, 3 years as Mayor. As a current Councillor I am working to achieve fair water and sewer rates and to ensure that taxpayers get fair treatment. The current direction regarding water supply is unsustainable and I am doing all I can to get the most cost effective water supply possible.
