I was driving highway 6 just west of the Hydro picnic area on the Shuswap river, when I noted that rocks had fallen recently; I wondered why a suspect outcrop of fractured rock was not blasted away.

Several meters ahead, where the slow lane had been closed, a significant chunk of road had collapsed down the bank. Got me thinking: was the rock not blasted because the road is entirely situated on unstable rock?

The road should be diverted away from that area before someone is killed.

God help the people that drive that road, because politicians seem more interested in "dangerous" highways like Cosens Bay Road.

Not too long ago, nature photographer Mary Sanseverino was extolling the beauties of Kalamalka Lake Park with Sheryl MacKay on CBC's North by Northwest. It was a good counterpoint to Dr. David Kennedy's letter to the editor friday, about the seemingly endless community-based struggle to protect Kal Park.
