Popular summer camp into round two of contest

A camp that has opened its doors to generations of children continues to seek community support. Camp Hurlburt in Vernon finished 15th in round one of the Aviva Community Fund initiative, and the camp is now trying again in round two to finish in the top 10 ideas before Nov. 9.  The goal is to raise $149,000 to redevelop the waterfront property.  “We hope that all of you who have been voting, will continue to vote in round two,” said Jennifer Yeo, with the Camp Hurlburt Association. “Those of you who have not yet registered as a voter, please go to www.avivacommunityfund.org to register. You get 15 votes, one vote per day. Please vote every day. Rebuild Camp Hurlburt is idea ACF10943.”
---------------
Don Quixote Note: I have been voting throughout the first round and am now voting daily to try get this idea through to the next round. Signup is very easy and this idea deserves community support. In the picture below as of this morning at 9:53 AM Camp Hurlburt is in 10th place (but only 13 votes behind 7th place).  There are still 14 days in this round and you and your friends would have 14 votes that may push CAMP HURLBURT over the top. PLEASE SIGN UP AND VOTE and Tell your friends.

If you don't vote don't complain!

Electors have a choice of voting UP TO 6 candidates for Council

http://www.vernon.ca/election2011/index.html

Do I have to vote for all 6 Councillor positions on the ballot?  No.   The ballot contains all the candidates running for office.  Electors have a choice of voting UP TO 6 candidates and are not required to vote for 6.  In other words, if you only have 4 candidates you wish to vote for, you may do so.

All Candidate's Forum!

CRA PRESS RELEASE

The Coldstream Ratepayers Association wishes to announce its forthcoming All-Candidates Meetings in anticipation of the upcoming municipal election on November 19. These meetings will give the Coldstream public an opportunity to question all candidates for both Mayor and Council positions in Coldstream. The All-Candidates Meetings will be non-partisan and will be moderated to ensure all candidates have a chance to present their views to the public. Questions for the candidates will be encouraged but will be in a written form (on 3x5 cards) in order to prevent speech-making from the audience and give order to the proceedings.

The dates and times are as follows:

1) Thursday, October 27, from 7-9 PM at the Lavington Elementary School.
2) Tuesday, November 1, from 7-9 PM at the Coldstream Elementary School.
3) Monday, November 7, from 7-9:45 PM at the OK College Lecture Theatre (Room D310).

The Coldstream public is invited to attend and "meet and greet" the candidates just prior to the forums themselves at 6:30 PM on the dates specified.

ACT Releases ‘Climate Change Adaptation and Water Governance’ report

Climate Change Threatens Canada’s Water: Report

Coordinated national and regional water conservation guidelines are required to address the detrimental impact climate change is having on Canada’s water system, according to Simon Fraser University’s Adaptation to Climate Change Team (ACT).
“The days when Canadians take an endless abundance of fresh water for granted are numbered,” warns Bob Sandford, lead author of ACT’s new report Climate Change Adaptation and Water Governance.  “Increasing average temperatures, climate change impacts on weather patterns and extensive changes in land use are seriously affecting the way water moves through the hydrological cycle in many parts of Canada, which is seriously impacting water quantity and quality.”
“If Canada doesn’t become a water conservation society, water security in many parts of this country will be compromised.” Read more

Libyan Government Warns NYPD to Exercise Restraint

TRIPOLI (The Borowitz Report) – As arrests mounted in the Occupy Wall Street protest in New York City, Libya’s National Transitional Council (NTC) issued a stern statement today warning the NYPD to exercise restraint.

“The Libyan transitional government regards any attempt to infringe upon the American protesters’ right to express themselves as a violation of international standards of free speech and liberty,” the Libyan statement read. “We will not sit idly by and watch this happen.”

Libyan government officials also hinted that if the arrests continue, it would consider forming a NATO coalition “to ensure the safety and security of the American people.”

While it did not state it as an explicit goal, insiders believe that if the arrests continue Libya may seek the ouster of New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, whose whereabouts remain unknown.

Perhaps in response to the Libyan statement, the U.S. State Department today responded with a statement of its own: “The United States is one hundred percent opposed to the suppression of popular uprisings as long as they aren’t happening here.”

About Me

My photo
I have been a resident of Coldstream since 1976. I have had 15 years of experience on Council, 3 years as Mayor. As a current Councillor I am working to achieve fair water and sewer rates and to ensure that taxpayers get fair treatment. The current direction regarding water supply is unsustainable and I am doing all I can to get the most cost effective water supply possible.
