Elizabeth May wins riding

The Canadian Press: Monday, May 2, 2011 11:44 PM

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May has officially won her B.C. riding. She is the first Green Party candidate elected in Canadian history.

May defeated Conservative incumbent and Sports Minister Gary Lunn in this Vancouver Island riding.

She won the Green party leadership in 2006, but lost a 2007 federal byelection in Ontario and lost against Peter MacKay in Nova Scotia in 2008

The win on Monday is a huge achievement for the Greens.

  1. A waitress wins a political position and this is wonderful. Load all the debates with your friends (even though they aren't from the riding), pool all the resources from across Canada, and you too can win a seat.
